Gina MacLeod

Gina MacLeod started singing at an early age being inspired by such wonderful singers as Judy Garland and Françoise Hardy. In secondary school she studied singing and developed a keen interest in opera, but eventually moved towards more contemporary song. With a strong musical heritage, her father and grandfather were well known composers for the bagpipes, not to mention notable players themselves; “Conundrum”, “Dora MacLeod” and “John Morrison of Assynt House” are just a few of their tunes known to be sound favourites of pipers and traditional players around the world.

Encouraged to branch out on her own, “A Song Journey” was born in 2000 debuting at “The Taybank” in the beautiful village of Dunkeld in Perthshire. Incorporating a mix of classical, folk and contemporary songs audiences were taken on an intimate and emotional journey of beautiful songs past and present.

Gina was invited to perform at the opening of Perth Concert Hall in September 2005. This offered the amazing opportunity to perform with Trilok Gurtu, the world class virtuoso percussionist from India and his prestigious band along with Mridula Desai (the much acclaimed vocalist from India) and a plethora of Scottish musicians.

She has also been involved in the Perthshire Amber Music Festival since it was founded by Dougie MacLean in 2005.  Featuring many wonderful musicians from Scotland and around the world, the festival was first organised as a two-day event and within a few years it had grown to ten days. Along with her partner, singer/songwriter Alan Jordan, she hosted the festival’s early evening Cabaret Amber concerts, showcasing a variety of musicians near and far. Most recently, in November 2022, ‘Shades of Amber’ was held at Cardney Steading in Perthshire over a long weekend. Being part of the festival has made it possible to work not only with Dougie Maclean, but also with his many musical friends over the years including one off performances with Scottish actress/comedian Elaine C Smith and Scottish singer/songwriter Benny Gallagher of Gallagher and Lyle fame!

Gina’s debut album “Butterfly Days” was released in 2009 and in 2013 was followed by Gina and Alan’s album “Silver Sole”. Both feature the wonderful songs of Alan Jordan as well as a few covers of favourite songs with a host of fine musicians sprinkling their magic along the way.
